Citing: noting the source of a quote, paraphrase or idea as an authority or
proof
Citing is the process of giving credit to the sources you used in your own work. Regardless of
format of your project (e.g., a written paper, PowerPoint presentation, Web page), you must
carefully acknowledge the sources you have used in preparing it.
In case you are unclear about what needs to be cited, here is a list:
- Words or ideas from published sources, such as a magazine, book, newspaper, song, TV program,
movie, Web page, computer program, advertisement, or any other medium
- Diagrams, illustrations, charts, and pictures
- Words or ideas from unpublished sources, such as class or lecture notes, handouts,
speeches, interviews, conversations, email, etc.
